Tyson Griffin vs. Gleison Tibau
I did not pick a prediction for this fight, but if I was to pick my choice would be Tyson Griffin. Tibau looks huge for 155, but still Griffin has done really well in the Octagon, only loosing a close decision to Frank Edgar.
Round 1
Griffin lands the first big punch...and another. Tibau took them well. Griffin fakes a shot and throws a leg kick. Missed kick by Griffin. Griffin is reaching when throwing his right, I hope that doesn't come back to haunt him. Griffin throws a body shot and they clinch. Tibau has Griffin up against the fence. Griffin has really let go late in the first. It's becoming apparent that he is a better striker...and just as I type that Tibau takes Griffin down. Griffin gets up and has Tibau up against the fence. Tibau takes Griffin down again...several punches, then Griffin gets up.
A very even first round, takedowns go to Tibau and striking to Griffin. Since Tibau didn't do much after getting Griffin on the ground I have to give round 1 to Griffin.
Round 2
Griffin paws at Tibau early. Missed a big right, covered up for the counters by Tibau. Tyson slipped and now Tibau has him against the fence. Tibau lands a couple of good shots and Griffin backs off. Tibau takes Griffin down and almost has Griffin's back. Griffin gets up and throws a straight kick. Good leg kick by Griffin and Griffin is again taking control of the standup. Good right by Griffin, Tibau's face is starting to show the signs of damage. Tibau takes Griffin down again, but Tyson Griffin gets up easily.
Again, like the first round Tibau had the takedowns and Griffin had the standup, and like the first Tibau didn't do anything after the takedowns. Round 2 goes to Griffin.
Round 3
Good left by Tibau. Good rights by Griffin, but a takedown by Tibau. Griffin is holding on from the bottom. Tibau is looking a little better from the top this time around, Griffin has tried to sweep Tibau, but failed. Tibau is being warned about hitting to the back of the head...and Griffin gets up again. Good left uppercut by Griffin and Tibau gets another takedown and Griffin up again. A big Chuck Liddell right by Griffin. Left hook to the body and Griffin is once again taking control of the standup. Elbow by Griffin and Griffin has Tibau up against the fence. Foot stomp by Griffin and with one minute remaining, Tibau has to do something soon. Looks like they both want to ride out the rest of the fight pinned against the fence, knee by Tibau and they break for the last 10 seconds...it's over.
I give round 3 to Tibau, but only slightly.
I give the fight to Griffin, 2 rounds to one (29-28). Let's see how the judges have it.
All three judges gave it to Griffin 30-27.
UFC 81 Results - Winner Tyson Griffin by decision
Ricardo Almeida vs. Rob Young
Well, not much to say here. Ricardo Almeida just put on a BJJ clinic. Shoots, takedown, eats some punches, then transitions to a guillotine. Young tries to flip and Almeida finishes him.
UFC 81 Results - Winner Ricardo Almeida by guillotine choke, round 1
Jeremy Horn vs. Nate Marquardt
Round 1
The clinch in the center and exchange knees. Nate takes Jeremy down, Nate is inside Jeremy's guard...Horn's nickname is gumby. Nate lands a big punch from above. Horn obviously trying to move up for a triangle or armbar, but Nate puts him back...and up against the fence. Horn looks calm on the bottom and the ref stands him up. Another right hand by Marquardt and he has horn down again. Nate is really dominating the standup, but Horn is very hard to knock out...and just as I say that, Horn takes a big elbow and they go oto the ground again. Horn looks like he is in trouble on the bottom. Horn moves back to guard. Elbow from the bottom by Horn. Upkicks from the bottom by Horn. Horn is locking in an oma plata (excuse my spelling). Nate swings around and now Horn is on top.
I give round 1 to Nate Marquardt
Round 2
Horn takes Nate down and Horn working from the top. Marquardt is cut over his eye. They are up and Nate has a standing guillotine...Horn taps and it is over.
UFC 81 Results : Winner - Nate Marquardt by submission guillotine choke, round 2
Tim Boetsch VS. David Heath
Round 1
Early on I am impressed with Boetsch's striking, good kicks, especially front kicks. Heath needs to do something to keep Tim Boetsch off of him. Another front kick and it's clear that David Heath is in for a fight. Boetsch has been doing some great striking here...nice knees from the clinch. Heath is eating way too many knees here.... Boetch throws Heath to the ground and Herb Dean takes way too long to stop the fight.
Tim Boetsch has just become one of my favourite fighters.
UFC 81 Results - Winner : Tim Boetsch
Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir
With all these WWE superstars at ringside I have to wonder...if Brock Lesnar gets into trouble will one of them jump over the ropes and try to help out
Round 1
Lesar with a really quick takedown of Mir. Now what happens...hammer punches by Lesnar. A quick timeout as Lesnar hit Mir in the back of the head. Big shot by Lesnar and this is really a problem. This is a ground war and mir almost grabls an arm. Lesnar looks like he's getting tired, but Lesnar is an animal.
Mir grabs a leg and ankle locks Lesnar
UFC 81 Results - Winner Frank Mir by knee bar
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Tim Sylvia
Round 1
Good leg kick by Nog. Nog pulls guard with big Tim on the top. This is where Nog wants the fight and Sylvia stands up. They trade right hands Sylvia knocks Nog down and now is nailing Nog on the bottom. Nog is working from the bottom, but Tim is trying to hammer fist. Nog looks for something and big Tim stands up. Nog is rocked and this could be trouble. He tries for a takedown and Tim Sylvia falls on top of him. Elbow from the top by Sylvia. Left by Nog. Sylvia stalking, but nothing home. Nog with a jab. Sylvia jabs, another takedown attempt by Nog and the round ends as the hit the ground.
I give round 1 to Sylvia
Round 2
They trade blows for the first two minutes. For the most part Tim Sylvia is getting the better of the exchanges, but Nog is landing some blows. Nog goes for a takedown, but is stuffed by Sylvia. Nice left by Nog and followed by a leg kick. Tim Sylvia is falling into his all to familiar pattern of doing less and less as the fight weatrs on. Nog is looking better and better. Another takedown attempt by Nog and Tim is doing well, Nog on his knees, but Tim still standing. Sylvia landing little punches and Tim ends up stuffing another takedown attempt. This round is closer, with one minute left Sylvia has it by a nose. Nog lands a left hook. Sylvia moving forward Nog jabbing.
I give round 2 to Tim Sylvia, but much closer than the first round.
Kick by Nog and nice punch by Sylvia. Nogueira with a nice takedown. Nog sweeps and has side control on Sylvia. This is very dangerous for Sylvia and a quick guillotine and Nog wins the UFC heavyweight title.
UFC 81 Results - Winner : Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
Kyle Bradley vs. Chris Lytle
Chris Lytle completely dominated Kyle Bradley. Bradley was so rocked that he tried to pull guard on Yves Levigne after the fight.
UFC 81 Results : Winner Chris Lytle
Rob Emerson vs. Keita Nakamura
Round 2
Rob Emerson has some very solid striking in round #1. With the exception of one good strike by Nakamura, Emerson is winning round 1. Emerson got rocked with one punch, but recovered well and lands a nice hook uppercut combination. Nakamura lands a big knee and Emerson goes down. They both return to their feet.
I give round 1 to Nakamura.
Round 2
More of the same, Emerson ended up cutting Nakamura with an elbow (not that he meant to, but it did). I think that Emerson won that round.
Round 3
Nakamura really picked things up in round 3. I give this round to Nakamura.
I make this fight 2 rounds to 1 to Emerson, but I could see a draw.
Judges give it to Emerson by split decision

Lesner TKO in round 2
Hey Johnny,
Thanks for great updates on the fights. Really helps for guys like me that don't have PPV available in our country (I am in Manila, Philippines). More power to ya bro!
I do wonder if the UFC will be paying him another $250,000 his next time out?
