UFC 85's main event was supposed to be Chuck Liddell vs Rashad Evans. Liddell injured his leg and the UFC was sent scrambling for a replacement. They found James "Sandman" Irvin to stand in for Liddell, but Irvin vs Evans is hardly main event material, so the UFC needed to look deeper.
They've announced two additional bouts which I don't truly consider main event on their own, but in tandem and along with Rashad vs James make a nice triple bill.
Matt Hughes vs Thiago Alves certainly isn't one that I expected. I thought for sure that the UFC would wait to put Hughes up against Matt Serra, but this bout is one of the reasons that I love the UFC so much. Alves is an up and comer and Hughes is coming off a big loss to GSP. Both of these guys are still extremely marketable (with Hughes vs Serra being a huge draw), kudos to the UFC for putting this one together.
Chris Leben vs Michael Bisping is also another one that I didn't see coming. A ton of fans on blogs have been asking for this bout but to be honest I didn't think it would happen. Finally Bisping and Leben are fighting strikers, this could be a knock down drag out war. Consider the winner of this bout in the short line for a title shot at 185.
