Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes wants his belt back from Georges St Pierre, then he wants to fight for the middleweight title.
"I want to get my (welterweight) belt back from Georges, then I want to fight for the middleweight title," Hughes said. "I'd like to hold both belts at the same time. I'd be the first person in the UFC to do that."
If Franklin was still champ, I could see him accomplishing this. But since Silva holds the title, Hughes will have a hard time. The rematch with St. Pierre will be a great fight, and it'll be interesting to see what strategy Hughes will take. He really should slow down and look at one belt at a time, and he's sounding a bit too confident and sure that he'll hold two belts simultaneously. Although it could happen, at this time, it is pretty doubtful.
I don't agree. I think that Matt would easily defeat Silva. Look how easy it was for Lutter to take Silva down and be sure that Matt's takedowns are better than Lutter. Once on the ground, Matt would control and GNP to a tko victory.
You're right, Lutter took down Silva easily enough, but what could he do after the fact? Almost get submitted, but succumbed to a ground and pound from Silva's guard. Maybe it was Silva's plan to have it happen that way.
Hughes doesn't have the hands or feet that Syilva has. It'll be a great fight, but I still see Silva winning.
