UFC 87 Results

Jason MacDonald vs. Demian Maia
Round 1
The exchange for about 20 seconds, then Demian Maia pulls guard. MacDonald tries to pass, but Maia has him in trouble...triangle, no, he doesn't have the arm...MacDonald rolls nad gets Maia's back. Demian gets out and MacDonald is back in top position. MacDonald almost nails a guillotine, but them Maia takes his back. Maia complains that MacDonald is doing something with his hand and the ref stops it. They continue from the same position. Maia almost gets MacDonald by rear naked choke, but MacDonald survives the round.
Round 2
A little Mui Thai to start off and Maia takes down MacDonald. Demian Maia is in full mount throwing elbows. Except for the last 10 seconds of the round, Maia spent the round on top in full mount landing punches and elbows. Round 2 definitely goes to Maia.
Round 3
MacDonald starts out on top, but Maia soon reverses and gets mount, then takes MacDonalds back and chokes him out (rear naked).
UFC 87 Winner : Demian Maia
Kenny Florian vs. Roger Huerta
Round 1
A good first round, highlight is Kenny getting full mount, then Huerta getting out. I'd pretty much call the round even.
Round 2
Not much action for the first 1 1/2 minutes of round 2, they almost seem to be feeling each other out. Florian goes for a takedown and Huerta counters with an attempted Kimura. Forian pretty much dominated the second half of round 2 rocking Huerta several times.
Round 3
Kenny Florian won the 3rd round with some outstanding stand up. I give Florian the fight.
UFC 87 Winner : Kenny Florian
Manny Gamburyan vs. Rob Emerson
Round 1
Less than 30 seconds for Rob Emerson to nail Manny twice...KO
UFC 87 Winner : Rob Emerson
Cheick Kongo vs. Dan Evensen
Kongo scores a big body kick and follows it up with a big right hand to knock down Evensen. Then to the ground and Kongo finishes with a bit of GNP.
UFC 87 Winner : Cheick Kongo
Brock Lesnar vs. Heath Herring
Round 1
Lesnar lands a huge shot early which might have crushed Herrings orbital. Then an attempt at a gullotine which didn't pan out, followed by 3 minutes of lay and pray. Lesnar definitely won the round, maybe even a 10-8
Round 2
Brock Lesnar controls the action and easily takes an un-eventful round 2.
Round 3
Dominant and boring decision by Brock Lesnar
Georges St Pierre vs. Jon Fitch
The site was going nuts during this fight, so I wasn't able to do a live update. GSP won a unanimous 5 round decision. He dominated Fitch in the standup and on the ground. St Pierre was on his back once for about a minute before reversing on Fitch.
In other fights:
Tamdan McCrory def. Luke Cummo by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27)
Jon Jones def. Andre Gusmao by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27)
Chris Wilson def. Steve Bruno by Unanimous Decision (30-27) on all cards
Ben Saunders def. Ryan Thomas by submission (armbar) at 2:28, R2

Quick Results - UFC 86
QUICK RESULTS:- Forrest Griffin def. Quinton Jackson by unanimous decision at 5:00, R5
- Patrick Cote def. Ricardo Almeida by split decision at 5:00, R3.
- Josh Koscheck def. Chris Lytle by unanimous decision at 5:00, R3

So, I went 5 for 8 last night, not bad especially considering that the Forrest vs Rampage fight could have gone either way (in my opinion anyway).
The next big event is UFC Fight Night 14 on July 19th (and of course Affliction "Banned" the same night).

UFC 86 Results
Rampage Jackson vs Forrest Griffin is happening tonight. Stay tuned for our full UFC 86 Results.
Marcus Aurelio (155) VS Tyson Griffin (155)
Tyson Griffin comes in to the ring to the Rocky theme...nice.
Round 1
The first minute they both circle and the crowd boos. Now Griffin has Aurelio on the ground with Aurelio looking for someting, but not landing. Aurelio moves to full guard, Griffin tries to pull out, but couldn't, Aurelio going for triangle, then arm bar, but nothing there. The result of the round they stood up and nothing much happened, except for a nice body shot by Griffin...on to round 2.
I'd give round 1 to Tyson Griffin, but not much.
Round 2
Aurelio has impressed me in round 2 with solid BJJ, but Griffin still dominated the stand up and stayed out of trouble.
Round 2 goes to Griffin, but again barely.
Round 3
Again, Griffin rules the standup, then takes Aurelio down. Aurelio looks good on the ground, but not good enough. I give this round to Tyson Griffin ... not close.
Overall I give this fight to Tyson Griffin 30-27...lets see how the judges have it.
Winner : Tyson Griffin
Chris Lytle (170) VS Josh Koscheck (170)
I don't believe it, I did the entire commentary for the Koscheck vs Lytle fight and the server threw it away. Anyway, basically a GNP clinic by Kos, opening big deep cuts on Lytle and Kos wins the fight.
Winner : Josh Koscheck
Gleison Tibau (156) VS Joe Stevenson (155)
Round 1
Nice first round by Tibau who held Stevenson in an oma-plata (sorry about the spelling) for 1/2 the round. In the end I give round 1 to Tibau.
Round 2
Despite early advantage by Tibau, Stevenson catches Tibau in a gillotine choke.
Winner : Joe Stevenson
For those keeping count, that's 3-3 on my predictions so far.
Ricardo Almeida (185) VS Patrick Cote (185)
Round 1
Almeida looked good with excellent BJJ and top control. Cote landed a couple of elbows from the bottom, but the rest of the round was all Cote. I give round 1 to Almeida.
Round 2
Cote looks much better in the first half of round 2, taking Almeida down (sort of) and dominating the standup. Almeida looks to be gassing in the second half of round 2. I give round 2 to Cote.
Round 3
A very close round, but I give it to Cote....however a late takedown by Almeida may turn it.
Overall I give this fight to Cote, but wouldn't be surprised with a split decision.
Forrest Griffin (205) VS Quinton Jackson (205)
Round 1
Griffin landed more, but Forrest did more damage, specifically with a big uppercut and then an impressive show of strength moving Forrest half way across the ring against the cage. A very hard round to call.
Round 2
Forrest hurt Rampage's knee and then got top position and dominated round 2. Round 2 definitely goes to Forrest.
Round 3
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson takes the 3rd round based on solid standup.
Round 4
Forrest gets cut early by a barrage of Rampage punches, then a takedown and Rampage gets top position. Forrest gets a triangle and Rampage picks him up and slams him just hard enough to release. They stand back up and Rampage gets the better. I give round 4 to Rampage.
Round 5
Round 5 was another extremely close round. Depending on how the judges score the first and fifth round this one is debatable. Given that I give 2 of the other 3 rounds to Rampage I give the fight on the whole to Rampage.
The judges give the decision to Forrest Griffin.
Winner : Forrest Griffin
Oh yeah, Melvin Guillard won his fight too.

UFC Fight Night 13 Results
James Irvin vs Houston Alexander
Kurt Pellegrino vs Nate Diaz
Tim Boetsch vs Matt Hamill
Thiago Alves vs Karo Parisyan
Anthony Johnson vs Tommy Speer
Gray Maynard vs Frankie Edgar
Joe Lauzon vs Kenny Florian
Non Televised Winners:
Clay Guida won over Samy Schaivo by ref stoppage in round 1.
Josh Neer won over Din Thomas by unanimous decision.
Marcus Aurelio won over Ryan Roberts by armbar submission( in just 16 seconds).
Manny Gamburyan defeated Jeff Cox by guillotine choke submission in round 1.
George Sotiropoulos defeated Roman Mitichyan by second round by ref stoppage.
That was a good night of free fights, don't forget to return to UFC Results for UFC 83 Results. UFC 83 is being held in Montreal Quebec, Canada on April 19th and features a welterweight title bout between Georges St Pierre and Matt Serra.
- 8 second TKO, Irvin landed a punch on Houston's chin, Houston dropped, Irvin missed, then connected and the ref stepped in.
Kurt Pellegrino vs Nate Diaz
- After getting beaten up in the 1st round, Nate Diaz sinks in a nice triangle in round 2.
Tim Boetsch vs Matt Hamill
- After a pretty even first round, with Hamill getting the better on the ground and Boetsch getting the better of the standup it looked like Boetsch was taking control. Boetsch came out strong in the second round, but eventually Hamill got hold of him and pinned him against the fence on the ground and scored a ref stoppage due to strikes.
Thiago Alves vs Karo Parisyan
- Karo dominated the first round, both on the ground and standing. In round 2, Alves caught Karo with a big knee and after Karo went down Thiago followed up with some big punches. Karo was very angry with the stoppage, but I think the ref called it right.
Anthony Johnson vs Tommy Speer
- This one wasn't even close as Anthony Johnson looked very good dominating the standup and stuffing takedown attempts on route to a spectacular 1st round KO of Tommy Speer
Gray Maynard vs Frankie Edgar
- A close three round battle which was highlighted by Gray Maynard taking Frankie Edgar down again and again. Unfortunately Maynard was not really able to mount much of an offense once getting Edgar grounded, but I believe that the takedowns and ground control were enough to win him the fight. The judges agree 30-27
Joe Lauzon vs Kenny Florian
- First round had some nice back and forth action highlighted by Lauzon taking Florian down a couple of times. After the first takedown, Florian landed some elbows from the bottom and a couple of them struct the back of Lauzon's head. Second round Florian takes Lauzon down and gets full mount, from there Lauzon was in real trouble with Florian landing blows until the ref stopped the fight
Non Televised Winners:
Clay Guida won over Samy Schaivo by ref stoppage in round 1.
Josh Neer won over Din Thomas by unanimous decision.
Marcus Aurelio won over Ryan Roberts by armbar submission( in just 16 seconds).
