UFC 75 Predictions
Let's take a crack at UFC 75 Predictions. It's hard to believe that the event is almost here. After the dry season of July and August, September will be a UFC fan's dream.
Quinton Jackson vs Dan Henderson
I think a lot of people will take Quinton Jackson in this one because of his dominant victories over former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell; and who would blame them? I on the other hand will take an olympic wrestler over junior college any day. If you are having trouble with this concept, watch the fight between Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz again. See how easily Randy out wrestled Tito? If Dan Henderson wants to, he can do the same thing to Quinton Jackson.
Of course, this isn't a wrestling match, it's an MMA event and nothing takes a wrestler out of his element like being put on his back or being punched in the face. Unfortunately for "Rampge" Dan Henderson doesn't seem to mind being punched. Dan Henderson has never been KO'd. He's only lost fights by submission and decision. I doubt that Quinton Jackson is going to submit Hendo, so that leaves the KO. Quinton has the firepower, but to get there he's going to get his chin tested by Dan Henderson's heavy hands.
UFC 75 Prediction : Dan Henderson
Matt Hamill vs Michael Bisping
When the dust settled from the Ultimate Fighter season 3, it was Michael Bisping who's hand was raised. However, there was an undefeated fighter who wasn't in the final. UFC 75 is going to answer the question of who really won season 3. It's a question which only one person was asking...Matt Hamill.
Matt Hamill needed to exit season 3 early due to an injury, however at the time he was undefeated. He still hasn't lost a single fight. So, 2 undefeated Ultimate Fighter and UFC records are on the line.
While Michael Bisping has been busy dismantling opponents with his precision striking and submission defense, Matt Hamill has looked a little sloppy. He punches like a drunk guy in a bar brawl, but you can't discount his strength and wrestling. He can probably outwrestle most opponents with one arm, but as I'm fond of saying "this isn't a wrestling match". I think Michael Bisping will end this fight quickly.
UFC 75 Prediction : Michael Bisping
Mirko Cro Cop vs Cheick Kongo
Cheik Kongo is coming off a big win and Mirko Cro Cop is coming off a big loss. These are two of the best strikers in the UFC heavyweight division, so don't expect a ground battle. Until I saw Cheik's last fight I would have suggested that Mirko could take Cheick down and finish the fight there, but Kongo has good submission defence, in fact I might even give him the edge on the ground. Mirko is coming off that loss and I expect him to be a bit tentative (see his first two fights post Kevin Randleman as a point of reference). Still, I have to give Mirko the nod in this fight. Juist because he has more MMA experience.
UFC 75 Prediction : Mirko Cro Cop
Houston Alexander vs Alessio Sakara
Sakara has a win over Elvis Sinosic by decision, a loss to Dean Lister by submission and a loss to Drew McFedries by TKO. In contrast, Houston Alexander has a big win over Keith Jardine. While I have respect for Elvis Sinisic's abilities, he's not as tough as Keith Jardine. I think that Houston Alexander will probably win this one. Of course, take into consideration that I've only seen one of Houston Alexander's fights and that ended in 48 seconds.
UFC 75 Prediction : Houston Alexander.
Tomasz Drwal vs Thiago Silva
This should be a quick fight. Both are KO specialists with a history of first round knock outs. With only one loss between them it is difficult to pick the winner. I guess I need to side with Silva given that he has some (although brief) UFC experience. He has a victory over James Irvin, but due to a knee injury and it was in the first round.
UFC 75 Prediction : Thiago Silva
Marcus Davis vs Paul Taylor
I'll be completely honest, I know almost nothing about Paul Taylor. He has an 8-1 record, but I have no idea what shows he's been in or against who. Marcus Davis on the other hand is 11-3 and this will be his 6th UFC experience. Taylor has wins over Pete Spratt, Shonie Carter, Jason Tan and a loss to Melvin Guillard. Given the level of opposition that Davis has had (and survived against) I'll give the nod to him.
UFC 75 Prediction: Marcus Davis
Gleison Tibau vs Terry Etim
As I move through this card I become less and less familiar with the fighters invovled. Gleison Tibau has a 14 - 4 - 0 MMA record including a 2nd round TKO loss to Nick Diaz and a 1st round submission victory over Jeff Cox. Gleison has gone 3 in a row since Diaz. Terry Etim won his fight at UFC 70 in Manchester by Choke. This is a tough decision for me, but I'm going to take Etim, from what I saw at UFC 70 he overcame some serious pressure before pulling out the victory.

UFC 75 Fight Card

Below is the UFC 75 Fight Card. UFC 75 happens on Saturday September 8th at 9pm and is in London, England. UFC 75 will be shown free on Spike TV, but it I believe it will be tape delayed.
Quinton Jackson vs Dan Henderson
This match is for two belts. Quinton Jackson is the current UFC light heavyweight champion and Dan Henderson is the current Pride champion at 205 and 185 lbs. This bout will unify the 205 pound titles.
Matt Hamill vs Michael Bisping
Matt Hamill and Michael Bisping were both on the same season of the Ultimate Fighter TV series. They were also both undefeated during the series (and remain so after), but Hamill got injured and despite winning his bout he was deemed unable to continue with the season (by the doctors). Hamill claims that he would have won the series, Bisping is aiming to prove Hamill wrong.
The UFC 75 Fight card is a strong one with 3 main event quality fights on it. Nice one free of charge.
Mirko Cro Cop vs Cheick Kongo
Cheik Kongo is coming off a big win and Mirko Cro Cop is coming off a big loss. Expect fireworks as both of these guys are at the top of the striker food chain.
Houston Alexander vs Alessio Sakara
Houston Alexander proved that he belongs in the UFC with his destruction of Keith Jardine, can he do the same thing to Sakara?
Tomasz Drwal vs Thiago Silva
Marcus Davis vs Paul Taylor
Gleison Tibau vs Terry Etim
Anthony Torres vs Jess Liaudin
Naoyuki Kotani vs Dennis Siver
Visit back soon for my UFC 75 Predictions. I went 8-1 at UFC 74, but I am not as familiar with some of the fighters at UFC 75, so I'm not expecting to do quite as well this time out
Quinton Jackson vs Dan Henderson
On September 8th, 2007 in London, England two of the best 205lb mixed martial artists in the world will meet and unify the Pride and UFC light heavyweight title belts. Dan "Hollywood" Henderson and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson are at the top of their respective games, but who has the better game?
Quinton Jackson was relatively unknown to UFC fans before he joined the organization. Jackson's first test was against the always tough Marvin Eastman. While Marvin put up a good fight, Quinton eventually out struck and out muscled Eastman KO'ing him in the second round. With that victory, the UFC gave Quinton Jackson a shot at Chuck Liddell, the then UFC light heavyweight champion and considered by many to be the best 205lb fighter in the world.
Jackson would end up easily winning the fight with Liddell landing a solid KO punch while Liddell was in a bad position and ending the fight with strikes on the ground, setting up the match with the Pride champion, Dan Henderson. Jackson's main strength is his strength; strength and aggressiveness. Quinton Jackson has a good chin, heavy hands and is a good wrestler with a strong high school and junior college wrestling background. Quinton is known for slamming opponents and overwhelming them with his strength.
Dan Henderson has been fighting for a very long time, he started his wrestling career at 5 years old and at 37 years old that means he's been fighting in some form for 32 years. Dan was a decorated wrestler in high school and went on to fight in Greco Roman wrestling for the US Olympic team in 1992 and 1996. It's safe to say that Dan Henderson is one of the best wrestlers in MMA. That said, it's not often that Dan Henderson wins a fight by out wrestling his opponent. Usually Dan ends fights with his big right hand (his left is pretty good too). Dan Henderson hits like a truck and has one of the best chins in MMA. His chin has been tested and has survived the likes of Wanderlei Silva, Vitor Belfort, Murilo Rua and others. Not only has his chin survived, but he has defeated those opponents.
Both fighters have victories over opponents who have defeated the other. For example, Quinton Jackson defeated Ricardo Arona, but Dan Henderson lost to Arona. Dan Henderson defeated Wanderlei Silva, but Silva defeated Quinton Jackson. Trying to predict the outcome of this fight is enough to make your head spin. One thing worth noting is that Dan Henderson is 8 years older than Quinton Jackson. Time catches up with everyone, everyone except Randy Couture that is.
So, who's going to win? The younger wrestler or the better wrestler? The aggressive striker or the experienced striker? Fortunately for the fans of the sport, fights are not decided on paper, but are decided in the cage. On paper, Dan Henderson should take this fight. His wrestling balances or overcomes Quinton's strength and wrestling ability, their striking is on par with each other and Dan Henderson's experience out weighs that of Jackson. However, this is a fight and anything can happen in the ring (or cage). Also, it's worth noting that Quinton Jackson likes his new lifestyle and won't give it up easily to anyone.

Big UFC month coming up
If you're like me you've been feeling the lack of UFC action lately. Dana and the boys have taken a long break between the July 7th show and the next big event on August 25th, but in the span of 1 month we're going to have 4 shows and the start of the ultimate fighter season 6.
First off, we have a WEC event this weekend (Sunday night). I think it's being shown on the Versus network. Not sure if it will be available by Pay Per View or not.
August 25th is UFC 74 "Respect" featuring a bout for the heavyweight title between Randy Couture and Gabriel Gonzoga. Also on that card is Josh Koscheck vs Georges St Pierre.
September 8th from London is the UFC 75 "Champion vs Champion" card where Pride 205 lb champ Dan Henderson will take on the new UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
September 19th is a UFC Fight Night card featuring Spencer Fisher vs Din Thomas an Mike Swick vs Jonathon Goulet. Also an interesting bout between Chris Leben and Terry Martin (fully expecting a KO in that one, just not sure who will be KO'd).
September 19th will also be the season premiere of Ultimate Fighter season 6. This season will feature coaches Matt Serra and Matt Hughes...and a bunch of welterweight fighters.
And finally on September 22nd will be UFC 76 "Knockout" featuring Chuck Liddell vs Keith Jardine and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua taking on Forrest Griffin.
So, relax and enjoy the next 3 weeks...after that it's all UFC all the time!
Don't forget about the WEC card on Sunday. The feature bout is between Joe Doerksen and Paulo Filho and should be interesting.

UFC 75 will be on Spike TV!
Looks like Spike will be televising the UFC 75 card including the light heavyweight unification title bout between Quinton Jackson and Dan Henderson.
Also included on UFC 75's card is:
Mirko Cro Cop vs Cheick Kongo
Michael Bisping vs Matt Hamill
Sounds like a good deal to me...free is always a good price!
UFC 75 will be held on September 8th. The Spike TV broadcast will be at 9pm ET/PT. This will be a tape delay from the actual event. I wonder if the UFC will also broadcast the event in "real time" on PPV?

UFC 75 - Pride and UFC light heavyweight belts on the line
Ever since Dana White first announced that Dan Henderson vs Quinton Rampage Jackson would fight I could swear that I heard him say that all 205 belts were on the line. However since then I've read everything from all belts to no belts to only the UFC belt would be on the line.
This weekend it was finally confirmed (by Dana White) that indeed all belts (Dan Hendersons Pride 205 lb belt) and Quinton Jackson's UFC 205 lb belt would be on the line for Septembers fight.
Whew! I'm glad that those rumor's were finally put to rest...aren't you relieved that I didn't get all caught up in posting each of the rumors as they materialized
Now we can finally just look forward to a great matchup between two outstanding light heavyweight fighters.
Bring on Rampage vs Hendo!

Cro Cop vs Cheik Kongo at UFC 75
Dana White has announced that Mirko Cro Cop will face Cheik Kongo at UFC 75 in September in London, England.
Both of these guys are strikers. Kongo will have a definitive height and reach advantage, but Cro Cop is probably the best striker in the UFC heavyweight division, if not the best striker in MMA. Mirko Cro Cop is coming off a surprise loss to Gabriel Gonzaga. Gonzaga KO'd Cro Cop with a right high kick to the head after softening Cro Cop up on the ground for a while. Kongo is coming off a victory.

Bisping is fighting Hamill, not Shamrock.
I meant to post this last week, but I guess I forget. Anyway, ignore the Bisping Shamrock thing, it's still Matt Hamill as his UFC 75 opponent.

Bisping vs Shamrock at UFC 75
It looks like Michael Bisping might be fighting Ken Shamrock at UFC 75. It had previously been thought that Bisping would be fighting Matt Hamill, but for one reason or another that doesn't appear to be happening now.
Is Bisping vs Shamrock an interesting fight? Well, considering Ken has lost 6 of his last 7 fights, probably not. However, Shamrock is a known name, a hall of famer and maybe it will show us how far Bisping has to go (or if he's already there).
