Ultimate Fighter Season 8 Starts Wednesday

Wednesday night is full of free MMA for UFC fans. It starts at 8pm on Spike TV with UFC Fight Night 15, then the season premiere of the Ultimate Fighter 8. This season puts interim heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira against former champ Frank Mir.

In a solute to this season here is Frank Mir demonstrating an omoplata on Joanne of the MMA girls.

Kendall Grove vs Evan Tanner

The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale (June 21st on Spike TV) is the next big fight for both Kendall Grove and Evan Tanner. Tanner is a former UFC middleweight champion and Kendall Grove (until recently) was considered a rising contender. Grove has fallen on hard times recently with a KO loss to Jorge Rivera and a TKO loss to Patrick Cote. Tanner most recently lost to Yushin Okami. This bout is a chance for one of them to get back into the mix.

TUF 7 Features Middleweights, then a title bout

The "other" coach has been named for season 7 of the UFC's Ultimate Fighter reality TV series. The coaches will be former Ultimate Fighter champion and top 5 UFC light heavyweight Forrest Griffin. Coaching the other team will be UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

This will set up not only an interesting season (Quinton and Forrest have some of the best one liners in the sport), but a top notch championship matchup when the season is done.

The fighters for this season will be 185lb'ers (middleweights). The middleweight division in the UFC is considered (by me) to be the weakest of all the divisions and can use a little star power. Of course the argument could be made that 185 is just as good as every other division, just Anderson Silva is better.
